SUMMARY:All I Want is More Beautiful w/Vartan Abgaryan: Benefit Dinner
DESCRIPTION:Slow Food Ventura County presents: \nDinner with Chef Vartan Abgaryan of 71Above at The Daily Dose in the Arts District \nAn Event to Benefit The LA Kitchen and Upper Ojai Relief \nVartan will create an exclusive four-course menu in the spirit of his celebrated restaurant 71Above. \nWines provided by Duclot La Vinicole. \nSpirits by Blinking Owl. \nMenu details to be announced. \nSunday\, April 22\, 5:00-8:30 pm. Limited to 80 tickets. \n$75 Dinner \n$175 Dinner and limited edition print \nThe generous donation by artist Eric Junker of 100 signed limited edition prints of ‘All I Want is More Beautiful #2’ are available for $100. With dinner or separately here. \nProceeds from the sale of Eric’s art will directly benefit two organizations that have been intimately connected by the recent Thomas Fires: LA Kitchen and Upper Ojai Relief. $5K will be donated by Slow Food Ventura County to each organization. \n5:00 pm Cocktails & Appetizers \n6:20 pm Announcements \n6:40 pm Dinner Course \n7:30 pm Dessert/Coffee \nThe Thomas Fire \nWhen the Thomas Fire ignighted in Santa Paula on December 4\, Upper Ojai was directly in the path of the driven blaze. The immediate aftermath sparked the community effort that became Upper Ojai Relief. Led by residents Trevor Quirk and Justin Homze\, they’ve raised nearly $100K and contributed directly to those most in need in Upper Ojai. Much remains to be done. \nMobilization by Ventura County’s Emergency Management Team helped to immediately facilitate relief shelters across Ventura County. Fresh food contributions arriving at these locations must come from licensed\, commercial kitchens. LA Kitchen immediately responded and began the daily shuttling of hundreds – and then thousands of fresh meal contributions to Ventura county for what would turn out to be nearly a month. When Jose Andres set up his World Kitchen in Ventura\, the majority of fresh foods originated from LA Kitchen. \nBoth organizations exemplify the spirit of giving that best represents our species. It is an honor to support their work. \nThe Daily Dose \nDaily Dose owner Sarkis Vartanian has opened his heart\, space and community to Slow Food Ventura County to help bring this benefit event to life. SFVC is grateful for such amazing support and generosity.

SUMMARY:Eat Less Water Book Release Party at Leashless Brewing
DESCRIPTION:Join in celebrating the National Book Release of Eat Less Water: The Solution to Water Shortages is in our Kitchen by local author Florencia Ramirez\, at Leashless Brewing in Ventura on Wednesday\, November 1.  \n \nAs a dedicated researcher and activist Ramirez created a compelling and informative read regarding the water use of our most commonly consumed foods. Here are some water footprint totals to chew on: \nOne head of lettuce= 10 gallons of water \nOne bottle of beer = 28 gallons of water   \nOne pound of butter = 3\,602 gallons of fresh water  \nThe book has garnered national and regional attention\, with upcoming radio interviews to air on KCRW (November 4)\, Entertainment Weekly\, American Public Media\, among several others.  Eat Less Water\, published by Red Hen Press\, is a timely call-to-action\, an inventive cookbook and a significant piece of investigative journalism.  I’ve read an advance copy of the book and highly recommend it for your library. (Charles Barth/SFVC) \nThe Farm and Flame food truck will offer sustainable\, menu options incorporating many local ingredients the night of the event (food truck will arrive at the brewery at 4:00). In addition to their delicious menu\, two special items will be offered\, Taza Mexican Chocolate Cookies and Spent Grain Sliders\, both recipes featured in Eat Less Water.  The organic spent grain is provided by Leashless Brewing.  \nThe event is free and open to the public. \nDo you have an upcoming event you’d like us to post? Please email event details to venturacountyca@slowfoodusa.org.
